Tsadia Bercuvitz running in national championship

Ithaca High School sophomore and elite runner Tsadia Bercuvitz had another breakout performance this past weekend at the Nike Nationals Indoor Championship (NIN) at the Armory in New York City. Bercuvitz earned All-American honors in both the mile and two-mile events—the only sophomore in the country to medal in both.

On Friday, Tsadia ran a blistering 10:04.42 in the two-mile championship, shattering her personal record by 34 seconds and finishing third. During the mile race on Sunday, Tsadia ran a tactical 4:46.38, winning her race, defeating the two top sophomore distance runners in the country, and securing her a sixth-place finish overall and a medal.

Tsadia’s performance at the NIN came just one week after her impressive showing at the New York State Championships on Staten Island. There, Tsadia improved her indoor personal record by 21 seconds and set a new all-time Section 4 record in the 3,000-meter.

The race was one of the closest state championship 3,000-meter races in recent years, and Tsadia’s time places her third nationally among high school indoor 3,000-meter runners and second among sophomores.

After her exceptional indoor season, Tsadia now ranks third nationally at the 3,000-meter and fourth in the U.S. and Canada for the two-mile distance. Among all sophomores, she is ranked second nationally in both the mile and the two-mile.
