"I Have Something to Say" explores the different ways people communicate, why it’s important to understand a variety of communication methods, and how to ensure every student’s voice is heard and respected.
In this case study children investigate the different ways communication happens within their classroom and throughout their school, identify an area in their school where communication might be difficult for students who don’t speak, and create an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) board for this area.
The communication board will help build awareness of different communication modalities and the difficulties some have in communicating and will demonstrate that effective communication may require modifications and the support of a community.
