Ithaca High School’s Technology Education and Engineering Department has been named a 2024 STEM School of Excellence by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA).
ITEEA annually recognizes outstanding schools for their commitment to providing a robust integrative experience through the STEM School of Excellence Recognition Program. This special designation was created to celebrate schools whose teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders are providing a meaningful STEM education experience for students and to inspire others to learn effective best practices and instructional strategies to enhance their programs.
“Our department is very excited and proud to represent Ithaca High School as one of this year's nationally recognized schools,” Jonathan Shyne, one of the technology teachers at IHS, said. “We have put in a ton of work to continuously advance our curriculum and extracurricular offerings.”
All K-12 schools, colleges, and universities are eligible to apply to ITEEA’s School of Excellence Recognition Program; applicants must provide detailed documentation to demonstrate a strong Integrative STEM education program. A panel of peers screens the applications, and schools may be awarded a STEM School of Excellence or a STEM School of Merit recognition.
This year, ITEAA named 29 K-12 schools and six colleges/universities STEM Schools of Excellence. All recipients will be officially awarded a banner and certificate at ITEAA’s Annual Conference in Memphis, TN in March. Emily Blake, Carson Case, and Scott Breigle will attend the conference to accept the award on behalf of IHS and its Technology Department.
