National Board Certification Ceremony

On January 30, 2024, South Hill Elementary teacher, Patricia Buhr, and DeWitt Middle School math teacher, Jennifer Lory-Moran, were recognized at a ceremony hosted by TST BOCES for renewing their National Board Certification. The National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education, and only one percent of educators in New York State have earned this credential.

Every five years, National Board Certified Teachers undergo a rigorous renewal process - a testament to their extraordinary commitment and dedication to excellence in teaching. This is a prestigious achievement that sets a high standard for educators across the nation.

National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. It’s the highest certification a teacher may obtain. Created by teachers, for teachers, the National Board Standards represent a consensus among educators about what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.

At the Ithaca City School District, a key piece of our commitment - to reverse the legacy of racism and establish communities built on love and joy - is providing and supporting professional learning opportunities for all staff. When our staff are able to further their learning and understanding of their profession, they can show up more authentically for learners. The professional learning opportunities available to our community wouldn’t be possible without the partnership of TST BOCES.
