Community message 11/1/23

Dear ICSD Community,

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that have escalated in Israel, Palestine, and other places across our globe and country. We are heartbroken over the loss of so many innocent lives. The Ithaca City School District denounces hate, violence, and prejudice in all forms, and we are committed to ensuring our schools are inclusive, culturally responsive, loving, supportive, and safe for all students and staff.

We know that these events are especially difficult for those in our community with cultural and family connections to war and tragedy. Holding an empathetic space for students and staff to share their thoughts and feelings without blame and judgment can be difficult but extremely necessary. The resources below may help in talking with children about the current crisis.

We are also aware of the threats of violence in our community and are working with various agencies to respond and put in place the necessary precautions. Our schools’ Student Services Teams and the Employee Assistance Program are available to students and staff who need extra support in the coming days and weeks.

As a district, we will do all we can to support our school community during this difficult time.
