District Resources
“Northeast is a kind school, with kind kids. We are a diverse school. It’s easy to fit in here, too. We have lots of different cultures, and people speak tons of languages. Kids get to do different fun educational projects, and study things like continents and animals. All the teachers are really nice. We have a soccer field, basketball courts, a track and two playgrounds. There are a lot of opportunities to play sports, music and do art here. We have a kind principal. Hope you come here, and like it too!” - Lucy, Heur, Alicia, Leul, and Tano
Northeast Elementary School is located in a neighborhood setting at 425 Winthrop Drive in the Town of Ithaca. We’re a fully inclusive school, committed to project-based teaching and learning.
We use the “Case Study” approach, by which students experience learning in meaningful contexts as they do the work of scientists and historians.
Students are collaborators who use their knowledge and creativity to develop high-quality projects and products which they share with others beyond our classroom walls, and that often times help improve our world. We value our community connections, and engage in fieldwork and with experts as we research, communicate, read, write, and engage in mathematics to design said projects.
Northeast is also known for its diverse student population. Our students and families come from all over the world and our school is rich in linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic, dis/ability, and learning style diversity. Our music, arts, and physical education programs engage all learners and provide students with meaningful practice with expressive academics.
Families play a key part in Northeast’s success and our PTA provides extra enrichment classes, programs, and opportunities from which all students benefit.
In 2011, Northeast Elementary received the National Blue Ribbon School Award from the U.S. Department of Education.
At Northeast, staff, students, and families believe that our future citizens are a product of a nurturing school environment, not just books. We believe in the power of kindness, working hard, and having fun!
The Northeast community is committed to providing a secure and supportive environment, in which all students are encouraged to treat others with kindness and respect.
