On Friday, January 24, 2025, the Cayuga Heights Elementary School (CHES) community came together for the annual Storyfest celebration. Dedicated to fostering a love of reading, the event featured book swaps, storytelling, and opportunities to sign up for Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL) cards.
The success of Storyfest is due in large part to CHES librarian Rachel Nilsson, whose dedication and vision have made the event a beloved tradition.
“I simply want to thank the entire CHES community for making Storyfest a wonderful event,” Nilsson said. “Storyfest is special because it is a reflection of our unique community, and everyone who takes part shares in making it what it is. During a time when community feels especially important, I am grateful to be included in this one.”
The Ithaca City School District (ICSD) remains committed to enhancing elementary literacy through comprehensive curriculum adoption and systemic professional learning initiatives. To foster a holistic approach to student learning, the ICSD has implemented a literacy framework that integrates phonics, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Events like Storyfest exemplify the ICSD’s dedication to literacy, community engagement, and a shared love for reading. Thank you to our community partners and families for making this event possible and for helping to create unique learning experiences that inspire young readers. Through these efforts, the district continues to create a supportive and enriching environment that empowers every student to succeed.
